Attic Extensions FAQs

Which type of renovation will best suit my house?

A ground floor extension will extend the footprint of your home and is a great option if you have the space on your property to build outwards. The main types of extensions we do are to extend living areas, kitchens and to create flow on the lower level.

A single storey addition is the best option if you don’t want to take up valuable backyard space. Your roofline will need to be raised to accommodate for the extra living space.

How long does an extension or addition take to build?

Each renovation is unique, however typical jobs usually take 4-8 months to complete.

How much does it cost?

Every renovation is different and there are so many factors that influence the cost of a building job. The best thing to do is to make an appointment for a free consultation so we can assess your property and discuss your requirements. You will then be provided with a quote.

Do I need council approval?

Council approval is required for all homes and approval regulations differ between states. You will need to lodge a Development Application (DA) in NSW and a Building Permit will be required in VIC.

Every job is different but typical council approval takes 2-4 weeks. Some houses, like heritage listed homes, will require extra approvals and can take 4-6 months.

Attic Group handles this whole process for you.

Other factors to consider

However you decide to increase space in your home, there are some factors to consider. External access, privacy, waste, trees, excavation and retaining walls are just a few.

Our team will talk through these things with you during the consultation phase of the process.
